Dr. Edi Editta Baldini graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Pisa with honours and right of publication of her thesis. She then specialized with honours in Medical Oncology and, subsequently, in Haematology at the University of Studies of Genova.
She started her professional career at the Medical Oncology Division of the Istituto Scientifico Tumori (Genova), which allowed her to achieve a solid background for her subsequent professional formation and scientific research work. From 1990 to 2009 she worked for the Medical Oncology Unit of Pisa (Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria Pisana), where she continued her activity of assistance and research, with a particular focus in the fields of breast and thoracic cancer. From 2006 to 2010 she worked as adjunct professor at the School of Specialization in Oncology of the University of Pisa.
She is currently Director of the Medical Oncology Division of San Luca Hospital in Lucca and lecturer in the discipline “Family and Community Nurse Practitioner” for oncology.
She is first author of numerous publications in international books and journals and has participated in conferences at both a national and international level as invited speaker or moderator.
Franca Melfi, MD

Dr. Franca Melfi presently is Professor of Thoracic Surgery at Medical School of the University of Pisa and Chair of Robotic Multidisciplinary Centre for Surgery - Thoracic MIS and Robotic surgery at the University Hospital of Pisa.
versity of Pisa where she received her M.D. degree and completed residencies in General Thoracic Surgery. Franca Melfi is currently involved in research projects at the University of Pisa, in cooperation with other clinical Institutions and active author of scientific publications.She has been mainly focusing on: Robotic surgery, Lung Cancer (specifically, Sentinel Lymph-node mapping in lung cancer), Lung cancer in women, Tracheal surgery. Presently, she is carrying out research on the application of high-technology in surgery (Robotic Surgery), focusing on lung cancer and mediastinum surgery for the standardization of the procedures.
In 2005, along with a group of professional women, she founded the ONG Association AIDAcp (Women Association against Lung Cancer). The intent has been to share experience relative to neoplastic lung pathology in women, to disseminate information, mentor young trainees, transfer data within the context of programmes and social initiatives of pragmatic intervention.
