Research Interests: Therapeutic targeting of breast cancer-associated genomic alterations, and delineating mechanisms of sensitivity and resistance to breast cancer targeted therapies

Dr. Hanker is an assistant professor at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Her research program is focused on 1) therapeutic targeting of breast cancer-associated genomic alterations, and 2) delineating mechanisms of sensitivity and resistance to breast cancer targeted therapies, including HER2 inhibitors, PI3K/AKT pathway inhibitors, antiestrogens, and CDK4/6 inhibitors. Her research program is supported by grants from the National Cancer Institute.

Dr. Hanker received her B.Sc. in chemistry from the University of Virginia and Ph.D. in genetics and molecular biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She trained under Dr. Carlos Arteaga at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Her awards include a Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program Postdoctoral Fellowship Award (2011), Vanderbilt Clinical Oncology Research Career Development K12 Award (2014), and NIH/NCI SPORE in Breast Cancer Career Enhancement Award (2016). She has authored over 18 peer-reviewed publications, serves on the editorial board for Frontiers in Oncology, and is a reviewer for many peer-reviewed journals.
