Eugenio Paci, MD, born in 1948, is past Director of the Unit of Descriptive and Clinical Epidemiology at ISPRO, Florence, Italy. EP participated in several research activities and projects at national and international level for the evaluation of cancer screening outcomes. He was founder and member of the movement for screening programs in the nineties in Italy participating in regional and national activity for quality assurance and process and outcome screening monitoring. As the coordinator of the regional screening programs for the Tuscany Region, he has been Director of the Cancer Registry of the Tuscany Region till retirement in 2014. He participated in screening evaluation for breast, colon and cervical cancer screening and since 2000 has been principal investigator of the ITALUNG randomized trial for the evaluation of low dose compute tomography screening. He has also been coordinator of the Italian project for the evaluation of the impact of mammography screening (IMPACT project) and coordinator of the European project EUROSCREEN to assess the outcomes of screening programs in Europe.

EP participated in many national and international research projects and he was member of group of experts in the 2015 IARC Monograph on breast cancer screening. In the context of the ITALUNG project, EP has contributed to the evaluation of the use of biomarkers for identification of high risk subjects and for the use of biomarker as complementary tools in multimodal cancer screening. From 2010 to 2014, he was scientific coordinator at ISPRO (today ISPRO), the Institute for cancer prevention and research of the Tuscany Region (Florence, Italy).

He was the national secretary of the Italian Association of Cancer Registries (AIRTUM) from 2007 to 2009 and scientific director of the Italian journal Epidemiologia & Prevenzione until 2014. He is author of many Medline scientific publications. Today EP is continuing activity in cancer screening research and he is member of the board of the Italian League against Cancer (LILT), section of Florence, a national volunteer association.
